Happy Sunday Carnivalists!
Most of us are still dealing with Carnival Tabanca now that Trinidad’s Carnival is over, but for those of you who need a soca fix or was not able to attend Trinidad Carnival, Jamaica Carnival is the next move.
WHERE TO PARTY
The promoters have begun to post their events and invite requests. Jamaica Carnival is rapidly growing in popularity, as some of the most popular promoters (Caesar’s Army) have brought some of their notable events from T&T to Jamaica. Scheduled to happen on Easter weekend, April 8 – April 13 will surely be a colorful and vibrant time in Kingston, Jamaica. Playing mas and attending fetes in Jamaica is also much more affordable. At a budget of around $1500 – $2000 USD, you can fete to your hearts desire then go home.
WHERE TO GET COSTUMES
Costumes can be purchased through www.bacchanaljamaica.com. Prices range from $280 – $500 in a variety of colors and styles. There are still costumes available for purchase. If you’re in the United States, your carnival boots can be designed by Bacchanal Footwear, based in NYC. Contact them for your custom order.
WHERE TO STAY
Most of the reputable hotels are in a section of Kingston called New Kingston. Some hotels to check out are, Spanish Court, The Jamaica Pegasus and Courtleigh, located about 5 minutes away from the old Bacchanal Jamaica Mas Camp. AirBnB is also an option for apartment rentals if a hotel reservation will not fit your needs.
