St. Maarten Carnival: Island Revelers SXM

I’ll be heading to St.Maarten in April and I cannot wait! This is a big year for St.Maarten, as they will be celebrating their 50 Jubilee Carnival. FIFTY YEARS! Wow! While carnival has been around for a long time, a younger band, Island Revelers is making its mark on the carnival industry.

Founded in of 2015, Island Revelers is one of St Maarten’s newest and trendy mas band. Comprising of young and inspired Carnival enthusiasts, the Island Revelers team is about having an enjoyable road experience, while dawning some of the most captivating costumes. Island Revelers started off with a bang and created a buzz among onlookers on Parade Day 2016, and has since continued to raise the bar for reveler experience.

Knowing this, I wanted to talk to Island Revelers about what plans they had for their masqueraders in 2019.

Can you tell me a bit about the band’s 2019 Theme?

Reign is 2019’s Theme. As it is Sint Maarten’s 50 Jubilee Carnival; Island Revelers has decided the best way to encompass this amazing celebration is to depict well known Kingdoms or their related King/Queen or Gods/Goddesses. Influence has been taken form the beauty & grace of Rome, the powerful kingdoms in Africa, & the melting pot that is the Dutch Caribbean.

What can we expect for St. Maarten’s 50th Anniversary celebration with Island Revelers?

Revelers can expect a “party band” with exceptional all – inclusive road service. You drink it; we have it 😉. IR really is all about the experience – amazing people, music & ultimately vibes & mas.

How do you want Masqueraders to feel when wearing an Island Reveler Costume?

When a reveler puts one of our costumes, they will feel elegant but most importantly powerful. The women will feel sexy. The men rugged. They will want to go out & Rule the Road. Putting on an IR costume makes you wonder why you never played mas with us before, and you know you won’t play with anyone else ever again.

What type of music is played on the road?

Powered by the best Djs on the island, the best soca from across the region is played along with a few surprises!

Guess which costume i’ll be wearing? See you soon St. Maarten

Yours in Mas
