Carnival Fitness: Getting Your Body Road Ready

I am not a fitness instructor, I repeat, I AM NOT a fitness instructor, but I’ve been asked by a lot of people to help them or give some insight into the process of preparing for the road. Those of you who are headed to Trinidad Carnival 2018, it’s crunch time, you have 100 DAYS to get your mind and body ready for the mecca of carnivals.

Now the main take away is that — your carnival body should be maintained year round. Binge dieting or trying to shock your body into weight loss is not healthy. (okay lecture done)

I understand people are busy, so most of us aren’t able to get to the gym 4-5 times per week but you need at least 30 minutes of activity per day to start shaking that fat off. The biggest thing also will be diet changes. This is 80% of you being successful. You cannot eat unhealthy carbs all day, roti skin, rice, pholourie every morning for breakfast and expect to have a 6 pack.

FOOD

I won’t tell you what to eat.. but know that soda and most things with high fructose corn syrup, HAVE TO GO. If you’re really dedicated to abs, cut back on drinking alcohol for 12 weeks.

My personal plan:

  1. I only eat fish, I haven’t had chicken, beef, or ham in 8 years.
  2. I limit my dairy intake and only consume plant milks – almond or coconut milk
  3. I eat leafy veggies twice a day – typically for breakfast and lunch
  4. Water is my friend.
  5. Acidic fruit is also great for my abs

Eating clean doesn’t mean eating salads all day everyday. Introduce a healthier grain like quinoa or brown rice into your diet with protein (your choice of meat) or some vegetables. Thinking of cutting back on meat too? WORKOUTS

All workouts are not created equally, for some of us our body will plauteau after doing the same workout all the time so you must continue to shock your body with new workouts. I decided to start working with a trainer, someone is there to not only motivate me but to ensure that my form is correct. Form is everything to make sure you’re hitting your targets.

Some of us have different goals, like building more muscle mass rather than weight loss. IF you’re trying to bulk up.. weights are your friend. Women, you will not look like a man, lift weights. Weight training is best for toning, tightening up muscles and giving you the definition you are truly looking for.
