Carnival Chaser Highlight: @MissLBlair x Global Carnivalist

We continue the Carnival Chaser Highlight series as more carnival chasers explore carnivals worldwide.  Be sure to check out other highlights previous to this one.

Carnival Chaser (n): An individual that goes on mostly carnival-based vacations, and plans trip after trip based on when the next carnival is.

Carnival is addictive. Meet Carnival Chaser: @Misslblair

What is it about carnival that keeps you chasing?

For starters, definitely the euphoria it gives me. I never feel so carefree as I am in a costume chipping down somebody road. Carnival also gives you longtime friendships, connections and an unsaturated feeling for more. Planning and initiating group chats with your friends is also something I heavily look forward to. After one carnival is done, then I start planning for the next. It’s an addiction

How do you think carnival has changed from when you first started attending?

Carnival has changed in the fact that it has become more demanding on a global scale, which can sometimes be frustrating for “feterans”. The costs has sky rocketed dramatically as far as flights, costumes and fetes. With all that change, the quality has definitely increased as well as far as production, amenities and costume detailing. As they say “you get what you pay for”.

Which carnival is a must attend for you?

I am probably going to get side eyed for this lol. Jamaica carnival is a must attend for me being that I am biased, but I love the mixture of  dancehall & soca on the road (dancehall is my first love). Second reason, the roads are wider in Jamaica so you have more room to wine and get on bad! Especially if you have a medium/large backpack on.

What are the “must have” items for you when choosing your band?

Hmmm, when I first choose a band I always pay attention to the theme and if the costumes execute and reflect that theme. Additionally, I always look at how a band markets themselves, I look at what separates them from the rest, and lastly, I do my research on previous experiences with masqueraders. This is a no brainer, but also vibes! VIBES AND MORE VIBES! Vibes don’t lie so if the energy isn’t there, then it’s a no for me.

Which carnival (that you have not tried yet) would you love to attend?

I am dying to go to Trinidad carnival. It’s the birthplace of soca and mas, so it is a must on my bucket list. The costumes are always on point and being that it is the Mecca of all carnivals maybe I’ll save the best for last 😉

If you have not checked out the full Carnival Chaser Series, please do. Each chaser inspires me to continue doing what I love.

Yours in Mas,
