Planning for Bermuda Heroes Weekend 2018

Bermuda Carnival is quickly becoming another carnival chaser stop for many. Not only is this the most gorgeous island, with their pink sand beaches, but the vibes here is undeniable. This is the carnival where you get to “vacation” and “fete”

Lucky for us, the bands launched on January 14th, so we’re able to choose our costume sections now. Let’s get into the important stuff.

When is Bermuda Carnival?

Bermuda Carnival falls on the weekend of June 15 – 18, 2018. There will be a plethora of events taking place, and the parade date is on June 18th. Make sure you pack your jouvert clothes – yes there is jouvert too.

Who Would I Play Mas With?

For a considerably small carnival, there are a lot of bands to choose from. It’s important to know that this is a dry carnival so pack your alcohol backpack or bring your cup filled with your preferred spirit. The carnival starts at 10AM and concludes in a “festival” setup with DJs and soca artists bidding us farewell on stage around 8pm. A Lunch break will occur half way through the parade so that masqueraders can refuel, then pump some more. These are the bands you have to choose from:

Where Would I Stay?

Bermuda is drive-able, so no location is too far, but ideally,  you would want to be in the Hamilton Parish area. AirBnB is also an option for apartment rentals if a hotel reservation will not fit your needs. Bermuda is extremely westernized and safe, so restaurants and transportation are in abundance.

Some hotels to check out are:

  • Fairmont Southampton
  • Grotto Bay Beach Resort
  • Hamilton Princess and Beach Club

I stayed at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort last year and had a wonderful  time at this hotel. Very modern with great amenities, a beach to walk to, and restaurants to choose from.

Where to Party ?

My favorite event was Raft Up. This is a beach day with your friends and others. DJs organized music on a large iron barge, blasted music and patrons either come by floatie or by boat/yacht to have fun at the event. Choosing your fetes now? Here is the 2018 Bermuda Carnival Fete List

Glow Bermuda is also a must attend fete. This is an all white, all-inclusive event. Who doesn’t love unlimited booze and white clothing mixed together?

It’s time to start planning!  Feel free to read more about my personal experience in Bermuda. Is there anything else you want to know? Ask me in the comments below.

Yours in Mas

  1. When planning and booking Bermuda carnival, what’s best to book first? Hotel or flight? Because flight prices are great right now and so is lodging from where I’m looking. And do you recommend going with someone or is Bermuda safe enough to venture alone?

    1. From a time perspective, hotels sell out first. I’d book that then my flight. Bermuda is definitely safe enough to do solo, but carnival is always more fun with your own friends

    2. If you do roll solo, I’d recommend joining a group like which fetes yuh goin. They have a BHW whatsapp chat where you’ll make friends for sure!

    3. @Vanessa I will go with you! I want to go as well and thought about going solo but not sure who I’d go with. So definitely looking for a group or one other person to go with.

  2. @ Kendra I’m thinking about going carnival. Are you still going? I would someone to go with

    1. I am not sure how you rent a boat, in my case. my friend is a boat owner. You can always join the party via floatie. The water is pretty deep if you’re far out in the ocean, so you should know how to swim or have a floatie.

  3. Hi, I have a few questions. I have seen that Raft Up cost $$$ but the I read that it’s a public beach. Does a ticket get you access to drinks or a boat?

Secondly, I can’t seem to find a proper resource on jouvert or popular fetes. I saw you recommend Party People so I am set for that. Are bands generally big or do they take individual routes? I want to do Jouvert and also popular fetes. I will be in in Friday 14th to Tuesday 18th. I appreciate your help.

    1. Hi Mike, I am not entirely sure that the ticket gets you access to since i’ve never entered by land — when i post the fete list, i’ll know for sure.

The bands all take one route and there is a really big jouvert. I will post a fete list really soon just stay tuned for that.
